Eye Toy Anti-Grav (PS2)
Publisher: SCEA
Developer: Harmonix
Format: Playstation 2
If you haven't heard of Playstation's 'Eye Toy', you've been missing something really special. 'Eye Toy' gives you the opportunity to put down that joypad and actually step inside your television (not physically, you nutters!). The Eye Toy is actually a small camera (think web-cam) that sits on top of your TV and lets the players see themselves live on the box!
To start your collection, if you're a newcomer, then you should get your hands on 'Eye Toy Play' and 'Play 2'. These give you a great idea about what 'ET' is all about, with 24 games between them. There's 'keepy-uppys' - yes, you can just imagine it, standing in your sitting room trying to keep an imaginary ball in the air (think of your mates looking in the window - classy!). There's also boxing, air guitar and the brilliant 'Spy Toy' (which lets you become an international super spy who travels the underworld looking for scummy evil mastermids... oh sorry, getting a bit carried away!). It's actually a fun security camera that will record any people passing by!
Now, let's talk about what I was meant to be talking about! 'Eye Toy Anti-Grav' is a little bit different from the aforementioned games as you don't really appear on the screen. That said, you still have plenty of opportunity to jump around like a right eejit!! If you know 'SSX' then you will get what 'Anti-Grav' is all about, but rather than a snow board, you take control of a hover board.
The key to the 'Anti-Grav Eye Toy' magic is your head and arms. The camera locks onto these points and uses them as references. For example if you move your head left or right, your character on screen moves left or right, bend your knees and you gain extra speed. Don't worry you will get the hang of the game really quickly. I was a little bit worried about the longevity of the game, but with lots of secret areas and alternate paths this shouldn't be too much of a problem. To give it another comparison to 'SSX', the more combos, back flips, rail slides you do, the more points you gain.
'Eye Toy Anti-Grav' is a great departure from the early 'Eye Toy' games and is really a sign of what it's capable of. If you have an 'Eye Toy', then you should add this to your collection! If you don't own an 'Eye Toy', then get one, because this is a piece of kit that will make your room a gaming haven!
