Ros na Rún bought by US TV station

TG4 soap 'Ros na Rún' has been sold to a television station in the United States.

WYBE, broadcasting in the greater Philadelphia area, bought the Irish language show and will begin broadcasting it shortly to its potential audience of 2.9m households.

The Irish produced soap will be screened with English subtitles.

'Ros na Rún' is co-produced by Eo Telefís and Tyrone Productions.

Máire Ni Thuathail, managing director of Eo Telefís, said the news was fantastic for everyone involved with the programme.

"The fact that a major US television station will now be screening the programme underlines the quality and success of the show."

The soap, which is filmed  in Spiddal, Co Galway, has been on Irish television screens for the past  nine years and currently attracts in the region of 235,000 viewers every week.

'Ros na Rún' is broadcast on TG4 every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30pm.
