Irish Alexander premiere attracts thousands

Thousands of fans turned out Thursday night to welcome movie stars Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer to Dublin, for the Irish premiere of 'Alexander'.

Amongst those who also attended the premiere at Dublin's Savoy Cinema were film director Oliver Stone, singers Samantha Mumba and Morrissey, and Irish actors John Kavanagh, Ian Beattie and Mick Lally.

When asked if he thought the movie, which flopped in the US, would be successful in Ireland, Colin Farrell said: "I don't know, it's a strange movie. There's a lot of symbolism and mythology. It's a long movie as well. There are two of the best battle scenes that have, I think, ever been put on film."

Actress Anglina Jolie, who plays Alexander's mother Olympias in the movie, commented last night: "It was one of the best experiences I've ever had they were all just lovely, lovely people. Especially the Irish men, they obviously just got a real sense of fun and wild, but really good-hearted and decent. They take care of each other and everyone around."

All proceeds from the Dublin premiere of 'Alexander' will go towards the Children's Cancer Fund at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
