Law & Order star Jerry Orbach dies
Jerry Orbach, the actor best known for his role as Detective Lennie Briscoe in the police drama series 'Law & Order', has died from cancer. He was 69.
Orbach announced earlier this month that he was being treated for prostate cancer and died on Tuesday at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre.
Born in the Bronx in 1935, Orbach studied under acting legend Lee Strasberg and became a Broadway star, creating the role of Billy Flynn in 'Chicago', starring in the original cast of '42nd Street' and winning a Tony award for his work on 'Promises, Promises'.
Nominated for three Emmy awards for his television work, Orbach starred as Detective Lennie Briscoe in 12 seasons of 'Law & Order' and had recently filmed some episodes for the new spin-off series 'Law & Order: Trial By Jury'.
Among Orbach's film credits were 'Dirty Dancing', 'Last Exit to Brooklyn' and 'Crimes and Misdemeanours'.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and two sons.
