The Corrs are back with an album that offers nothing new in terms of style, but does feature more catchy lyrics and great vocal performances.
'Borrowed Heaven' boasts more of the band's trademark blend of pop and traditional Irish music, which has made them so popular and is at the root of their success. 'Time Enough for Tears', 'Humdrum' and the instrumental 'Silver Strand' feature more haunting Irish airs interwoven seamlessly with the rockier parts of the album.
Amid the summery, cosmopolitan vibe of the collection lies the prevalent theme that nothing lasts forever. Tracks like 'Summer Sunshine', 'Long Night' and 'Borrowed Heaven' are all about loss and transience.
The title track is one of the album's highlights, featuring guest vocals by Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It is the only departure in style for the Corrs, which is disappointing. 'Borrowed Heaven' is classic Corrs, but a little more experimentation would have made it far superior.
