Top honour for French actor Jean Reno
Actor Jean Reno has been made an officer of the National Order of Merit by French president Jacques Chirac.
The National Order of Merit is France's second-highest level of civilian award after the Legion d'Honneur.
Chirac said: "He is one of those very great actors who is connected by an invisible thread, a complicity, a friendship, to the public."
Reno, 55, is known to international audiences for his roles in blockbusters such as 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Godzilla' as well as his work in French films including 'The Big Blue', 'Leon' and 'Ruby & Quentin'.
Arab French director and writer Yamina Benguigui (Pimprenelle, Inch'Allah dimanche) received the Legion d'Honneur during the ceremony in Paris.
