Top honour for French actor Jean Reno

Actor Jean Reno has been made an officer of the National Order of Merit by French president Jacques Chirac.

The National Order of Merit is France's second-highest level of civilian award after the Legion d'Honneur.

Chirac said: "He is one of those very great actors who is connected by an invisible thread, a complicity, a friendship, to the public."
