Buffy comes to an end in the US

Cult TV series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' ends in the US tonight after six years on air.

The fantasy horror series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, a vampire slayer who lives in California.

Creator Joss Whedon is reported to be planning further spin-offs for the show, which was based on a 1992 film of the same name, starring Kristy Swanson.

Current spin-off 'Angel', starring the character played by David Boreanez, is set to continue on the WB network in the US.

In February Gellar told Entertainment Weekly there woud be a "pretty spectacular" finalé and said she wanted to see the show go out on a high after its seventh series.

The 25-year-old star, who is married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr, has made a move onto the big screen in recent times with the films 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Scooby-Doo'.

Sky One will be screening the final Buffy episode on 12 June.
