Alicia Keys tops Grammy awards
R'n'B singer Alicia Keys scooped five awards at last night's Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles; Ireland's U2 came away with four.
As well as taking the coveted Best New Artist award, Keys also took Best Female R and B Performance, Song of the Year and Best R'n'B song for her hit single 'Fallin' and Best R'n'B album for 'Songs in A Minor'. She had been nominated in six categories.
U2 took Record Of The Year for 'Walk On', Best pop performance by a duo or group for 'Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of', Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for 'Elevation' and Best Rock Album for 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'.
The soundtrack to the film 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' took a surprise four awards, including Album of the Year and Best Compilation.
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance went to Nelly Furtado for 'I'm Like a Bird'; James Taylor took Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for 'Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight'.
Lenny Kravitz took the prize for Best Male Rock Performance with 'Dig In', Best Female Rock Performance went to Lucinda Williams for 'Get It Right With God'. Best Rock Song went to Dropes of Jupiter for 'Train', while Linkin Park took the Best Hard Rock Performance award for 'Crawling'.
Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals was won by 'Lady Maramalade' from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack (Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink), Best Pop Vocal Album went to Sade's 'Lovers Rock', Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album was won by Harry Connick Jr for 'Songs I Heard' and Eric Clapton won the award for pop instrumental.
UK group Coldplay took Best Alternative Music Album for 'Parachutes'.
Destiny's Child scooped Best R'n'B performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for 'Survivor', while Best Male R'n'B Performance went to Usher for 'U Remind Me'.
Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group went to Outkast for 'Ms Jackson', who also took the Best Rap Album prize for 'Stankonia'. Missy "Misdemeanour" Elliot's 'Get Ur Freak On' was judged best rap solo.
Janet Jackson's 'All For You' was named best dance recording.
Dolly Parton took the award for Best Female Country Performance for 'Shine'; Ralph Stanley took Best Male in the same category for 'O Death'. Best Country Collaboration with Vocals went to 'I am a Man of Constant Sorrow' (Dan Tyminski, Harley Allen & Pat Enright - The Soggy Bottom Boys) and Best Country Album went to 'Timeless - Hank Williams Tribute' (Various Artists).
Bob Dylan scooped the Best Contemporary Folk Album prize for 'Love And Theft' and Best World Music Album was won by 'Full Circle/Carnegie Hall 2000' (Ravi Shankar), while Ireland's Enya took Best New Age Album for 'A Day Without Rain'.
