No more queuing for Oscars seats

The tradition of film fans queuing overnight outside the Oscars venue for tickets has come to an end with an announcement that applications must now be made in advance.

The five hundred seats reserved for members of the public every year will be allocated in advance this year due to heightened security.

Fans' tickets, known as "bleachers", will be handed out on a first come first served basis from Wednesday 6 February.

This year's ceremony will take place on 24 March at the new Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, a move from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles' tough South Central area.

The nominations will be announced on Tuesday 12 February.
