British goverment anger over Brass Eye

The British Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, is to register her anger with Channel 4 over its decision to screen a controversial spoof investigation into paedophilia.

The 'Brass Eye' programme, written by Chris Morris, was first broadcast last Thursday night and was repeated the following night, despite negative reaction from viewers and children's charities.

Channel 4 has expressed regret that some viewers found the satire offensive but has defended the decision to broadcast the programme.

The station insists the show made a serious point about media sensationalism over paedophilia.
