The freedom of the city of Dublin is conferred on U2 and their manager, Paul McGuinness, and on the leader of Burma's National League for Democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest in her native country for many years.

At the cermeony Aris son of Aung San Suu Kyi accepted the honour for his mother.
