RTÉ News reports on shopping in Dublin city in the lead up to Christmas. December the eight is the traditional day for people from the country to travel to Dublin for Christmas shopping.

This report shows the Christmas lights in Dublin city centre. Shoppers in Henry Street and Clerys Department Store in O'Connell Street. Children lining up to meet Santa Claus are also shown. Snooker tables are proving a popular present to be shared amongst family members. Presents have become more practical during the recession according to a man involved in retail. RTÉ reporter Caroline Erskine is shown trying on a fur coat with the price tag of £3995.
