A special programme showing the returned of the Dáíl to the Round Room of the Mansion House to mark the 50th anniversary of its first meeting and to honour the surviving members of that Dáil.
This was the first time that RTÉ Radio and Television broadcast live coverage of a Dáil session. Eleven of the twelve surviving Sinn Féin deputies can be seen in attendance - Joseph O'Doherty, P.J Ward, Dr James Ryan, Robert Barton, Richard Mulcahy, Ernest Blythe, Seán MacEntee, Dr Brian Cusack, Alasdair Mac Cába , Padraig O'Keefe and President Eamon de Valera. Sean Nunan, who had acted as a clerk to the Dail in 1919, is also present.
The voiceover of reporter Sean Duignan sepaking in Irish introduces the surviving members of the first Dáil.

The first meeting of Dáil Éireann took place in the Round Room of the Mansion House on 21 January 1919. To honour the 50th anniversary of the this event the first sitting of the Dáíl for 1969 took place in the Round Room of the Mansion House.
RTÉ marked the occasion with programmes on radio and television. The extract here is from the first ever live broadcast of the Dáil in session on radio and television was part of this output.
