A report from the series 'Nationwide'. Reporter Paul O'Flynn visits Killiney, County Dublin where Ken Carraher decorates his family house every Halloween. He starts shopping for items after Christmas and spends a lot of money on fake cobwebs, smoke machines, batteries and sweets.
His neighbours Brid and Ronan Gammell think the Halloween house is great. Ken's daughter Aoife Carraher helps her father each year to decorate.
Mummies, monsters, gravestones and ghouls adorn the house. They have now started collecting donations for charity.
- Information
'Nationwide' is an early evening magazine programme that brings Irish viewers an eclectic round-up of news, views and events from around the country.
The origins of Halloween are found in Ireland and Scotland. Children traditionally dress up and look for fruit and sweets from local houses. There are a variety of traditional games played at Halloween such as ducking for apples in a basin of water.
