RTÉ News reports on the Taoiseach Charles Haughey leader of the Fianna Fáil party as he campaigns throughout the country in advance on the 1981 general election.
In the border counties of Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan , supporters of the hunger strikers in the H Block prison attempt to disrupt the campaign.
The National H-Blocks Committees had announced that they would harrass the Taoiseach during all public appearances during the election campaign because, they claimed, he had not done enough to end the hunger strike in the Maze Prison.
The Taoiseach is received warmly in Arklow and Newtownmountkennedy.

Republican prisoners in Long Kesh prison, also known as the Maze or the H Blocks near Belfast , Northern Ireland wished to be treated as political prisonsers. 10 prisoners died on the 1981 hunger strikes.
