An extract from a programme in the series 'Tangents' looking at the campaigns of minority parties and independent candidates in the 1973 general election.

Among the smaller parties who contested the election were Sinn Féin, with a commitment that if elected, they would take their seats, Kevin Boland's Aontacht Éireann party and the Communist Party led by Michael O'Riordan.

In this clip, Michael O'Riordan tells John O'Donoghue of RTÉ how attitudes to the Communist Party have changed.

The 'Tangents' series covered news and current affairs and was broadcast after the main evening news from 1972 to 1974.
