President Obama and his wife Michelle get a warm welcome in Moneygall, the home of the president's great great great grandfather.
The President and First Lady visited Mr Obama's ancestral home in Moneygall, County Offaly. The couple spent time greeting some of the hundreds of people who had gathered to welcome them.
While in the village President Obama visits a small shop and enjoys a pint of Guinness in the Ollie Hayes' pub. Barak Obama is photographed with distant cousins including Henry Healy.
Back on the main street Barack and Michelle Obama spend more time with the corwd who have turned out to welcome them before departing be helicopter.
Within one week in May 2011 RTÉ was to cover three major events. The first was the four day state visit of Queen Elizabeth followed by the arrival of President Obama. In between the two visits was the state funeral of former Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald.
