The opening sequence, titles and music for the Late Late Show have evolved over the years. Back in 1974 a new sequence was launched featuring photographic stills of Gay Byrne.

The opening animation features the owl that is now synonymous with the Late Late Show.

The sequence features a fast cut montage of photographic stills of Gay Byrne. The clip also uses animation in the form of round white lights which fill the screen and then turn into words.

The voice-over then starts "Ladies and Gentlemen, to whom it concerns, it's the Late Late Show, and her is your host, Gay Byrne". The same spoken introduction to the show was used throughout the time that Gay Byrne was host.
