    This interview with Seamus Heaney was recorded in 1974, a year of political unrest and violent conflict due to the collapse of the Northern Ireland Executive and the Dublin and Monaghan bombings. Eavan Boland asks the poet if he feels conscripted to writing about the political situation in Northern Ireland.

    ‘The Arts’ was an RTÉ radio series about poetry, music and literature. The first programme was broadcast on 7 February 1973 and featured poet John Montague introduced by Liam Miller. Other presenters included the poet Eavan Boland, who won a Jacob’s award in 1976 for her work on the show.
