The first day for the first country in Europe to introduce a smoking ban in the workplace, pubs and restaurants.

Gareth O'Connor is out and about on the streets of Dublin listening to the reaction of publicans and the public to the enforcement of the strictest smoking laws in Europe.

This RTÉ News report includes interviews with early morning workers at a café in Smithfield, an early morning pub The Boars' Head on Capel Street and people having lunch at the Henry Grattan pub.

In general, there is positive feedback to the smoking ban from both non-smokers and smokers, with the non-smokers noting a need for a change in lifestyle.

While there are no people smoking in any of the indoor scenes, there are scenes of people and ashtrays outside a pub.
