Allied Ironfounders (Ireland) Ltd was established in 1938 to convert the raw material scrap iron into a wide range of products from railway line sole plates to rainwater pipes and from solid fuel cookers to frying pans. Thomas Fewer was the Company Secretary, and in addition to managing the clerical operations of the company he organised the annual office outings.

The first outing he filmed was in 1956 to Helvick Head in County Waterford. Many of the workers made the journey by scooter and motorbike.
