  • Extended description

President Kennedy makes a speech at the quayside in New Ross, Co. Wexford, from where his great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy emigrated. Among his party are his sisters Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Jean Kennedy Smith. He is introduced by Andrew Minihan, Chairman of the Urban District Council, who is having technical problems with his microphone.

President Kennedy says he is proud to be in New Ross and talks about his great-grandfather’s legacy of a strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty. To the amusement of the audience, he wonders if he himself would be working at the Albatros fertiliser factory or at John V. Kelly’s shop if his great-grandfather hadn’t left.
