Shortly after 8.00pm on Wednesday, 26 June 1963, President Kennedy arrived at Dublin Airport on board Air Force 1.

President Kennedy flew in from Germany where that morning he had visited the Berlin Wall and given his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech.

A large group of Irish dignitaries was waiting to greet him. President Kennedy was formally welcomed to Ireland by President Éamon de Valera before travelling to the Phoenix Park in a motorcade through Dublin city, where thousands lined the streets to see him.
