For the 1966 television documentary, 'The Writers – Patrick Kavanagh', Kavanagh returned to his home place of Inniskeen. Kavanagh, from his own script for this programme, reads an extract from the novel 'Tarry Flynn' and visits the national school he attended at Kednaminsha.

"...And this is the house I was born in, and this is the lane down which Tarry Flynn rode his bicycle with his neighbour Eusebius Cassidy..."

On 10 October 1966, the first of an occasional series on Irish writers was broadcast on RTÉ Television. The subject of this episode was the poet Patrick Kavanagh. In the same week, Patrick Kavanagh devoted his weekly column in the RTÉ Guide to film and himself. He wrote:

"The film of my life and hard lines to be shown on the 10th is based on my belief that things of public importance are never of any importance."
