Twelve people, including one policeman, were injured in last night's disturbances. Donal Kelly reports on sectarian taunting by Catholic youths in the Bogside.
Kelly describes the sectarian insults as "far from funny".
John Hume pleaded with the crowds to disperse. While many listened and returned home, others stayed on in search of conflict. After a number of acts of violence, the civil rights stewards threw in the towel. When the police demands were unheeded, the police used the water canon.
Liam Hourican spoke to the Protestant residents of Fountain Street about the situation. They described how they feel threatened by people who claim they are treated like second class citizens.
