Chief Whip of the Unionist Party and Chairman of the selection meeting, Roy Bradford, announces the leadership result, which sees Major Chichester-Clark defeat Brian Faulkner by a single vote.

The announcement is made from the foot of the steps of Stormont, with Chichester-Clark receiving 17 votes and Brian Faulkner 16.

Following the announcement of the result, it was moved by Captain John Brooke, seconded by Mr. Desmond Boal that the meeting unanimously accepted the decision.
