  • Extended description

Following the local government franchise vote, Captain O'Neill's position as leader of his party and Prime Minister is looking increasingly weak.

Seán Duignan reports on O'Neill's predicament and the division within the Unionist Party.

So far, O'Neill has survived because the Unionists themselves could not appear to agree on an alternative. However, the feeling today is that a real contender has now come forward in the form of Brian Faulkner.

Duignan argues that it is clear that the Unionist Party is now more divided than ever.
