The proposal for universal local government franchise is adopted narrowly by the Unionist Parliamentary Party.
Roy Bradford announces the result of the vote to the media. The vote was taken on the motion which read,
"This parliamentary party decides to adopt the principle of universal adult franchise at the next local government election and will seek the support of the standing committee for this decision".
The motion was carried by 28 votes to 22. An amendment put forward by Senator George Clarke and seconded by Mr. James Strong was defeated by 27 votes to 22.
Bradford also comments that the parliamentary party has decided to adopt the principle of universal adult franchise, which will be implemented in time for the next local government election if the present administration is still in power. - Information
