  • Extended description

Sean Duignan reports from Stormont minutes after the Unionist Parliamentary Party has voted.

Jimmy Kelly of Independent Newspapers talks to Duignan about the result of the vote, the split it leaves in the Unionist Party and the difficult position Captain Terence O'Neill is left in.

The chief-whip announced the result of the vote as 28 to 22 in favour of 'one man, one vote'. Kelly also talks about the view of Brian Faulkner who feels that it is being introduced too quickly by the government.

'One man, one vote' will be implemented at the next local government elections, which are due in 1970 but may be postponed.

Kelly describes the result of the vote at 28 to 22 as disappointing. While the vote was passed it could hardly be described as a tremendous victory.
