  • Extended description

On the day of the election, Don McManus reports from Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, for the lunchtime news.

Although there is a lack of obvious election fever by way of posters or campaigning, the numbers turning out at the polls are high.

Despite the high turnout, McManus says that he has seen absolutely no evidence of a campaign from Anna Forrest. McManus reports that bookmakers have made Bernadette Devlin the 4/1 favourite to win the election, which he views a little optimistic.

McManus says that Devlin "will need every anti-unionist vote that's going" and anticipates that a result should be available at about 3am.
