- Extended description
Brian Faulkner sees no reason for a general election as the differences within the Unionist Party are about leadership not policies.
Faulkner feels that voting will not indicate if people have confidence in Captain O'Neill because the voting will be on the policies of the government, rather than the leadership. Faulkner also argues that he has never been a runner for the leadership of the party.
Captain O'Neill and his cabinet had responded to opposition to his leadership from within the Unionist Party by dissolving parliament and calling a general election.
