Jack Campbell describes the fighting which took place in open country during the early days fo the war.
Retreating from Mons became a test of endurance as the men were given ten minutes rest every hour. What rest was given during the night depeneded on how near the advancing German army was. After a few days marching the men began to have hallucinations because of the lack of rest.
