    Edgar Poulter describes how he and his friends went to Landsdowne Road to join the British Army. Colonel Downing who was to be their commanding officer asked each of them were they willing to join up. Once Edgar and his friends replied yes they were sent to Brunswick Street where they were weighed, measured and given a weekend's pay and told to report to the Curragh.

    'The Irish Brigades In The First World War' was a two part documentary for radio. The programme examined the participation of the Irish Brigades in the Great War using personal accounts of the battles from surviving members.

    The documentary was produced by Kieran Sheedy and presented by Tom McGurk. The clip used here was taken from part one and broadcast on 10 November 1974. 

    The photograph accompanying this clip shows officers of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
