A peaceful priest turned rebel leader

A 'Radharc' documentary looking at the story of 1798 hero Fr John Murphy of Boolavogue, Co. Wexford. His exploits are celebrated in the folk song 'Boolavogue'. The local curate led a people's army against the Crown forces and was executed at Tullow.

In this extract, presenter Fr Peter Lemass examines Murphy's motives and what turned him from a peaceful priest, who initially persuaded his parishioners to give up their pikes, into a rebel leader.

'Radharc: Boolavogue' was first broadcast on 18 April 1965.
