General President of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) John Conroy lays the foundation stone of the new Liberty Hall in Dublin.
The General President of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) John Conroy paid tribute to Connolly.
He was one of the greatest of all Labour leaders.
The new building is being constructed on the site of the earlier Liberty Hall, which was destroyed during the Easter Rising in 1916. In his address James Conroy requests that,
The rebuilding of Liberty Hall is mindful in its duty to honour Connolly.
The ceremony was attended by trade unionists and James Connolly’s daughter Senator Nora Connolly O'Brien.
Liberty Hall was built between 1961 and 1965 and at 195 feet, became Dublin’s first skyscraper.
