A commemorative 50 pence coin is being minted to celebrate the Dublin Millennium.

Minister for Finance Ray MacSharry visits the Dublin Mint where the millennium coins are in production.

The design of the new millennium fifty pence coin is based on the city's coat of arms and that of the Lord Mayor.

Five million new coins will be in circulation by early summer.

During his visit, Minister MacSharry said that the reform of the coinage system is a priority for the mint.
