'On the Land' visits Ashford, County Wicklow for the second International Sheep Shearing Competition.

Young farmers representing England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland compete alongside Macra na Feirme clubs from the Republic of Ireland. 

Reporter Pat Jennings meets the manager of the team representing the Republic of Ireland Pat Boland who comments on their chances of winning. The team have been selected from the best sheep shearers in Ireland, after a long competition process which begins with the inter-club competition, through the county championships and on to the All Ireland National Championships. All competitors taking part are under 25 years of age. 

The 1962 All Ireland Sheep Shearing champions Denis Healy of Aughrim, County Wicklow and George Ross of Bandon, County Cork, are representing Ireland in this international contest.
