Out on the Fine Gael campaign trail, Michael Noonan is unphased when hit by a custard pie.
Fine Gael leader Michael Noonan was in Ballinamore county Leitrim, where the party was launching its regional policy. Under the new policy, there will be a new Minister for Regional Development to accelerate the National Development Plan, roll out broadband, and proceed with decentralisation.
As the campaign moved on to Boyle in county Roscommon, Mr Noonan was approached by a woman who smashed a custard pie in his face.
He retreated to his Fine Gael bus and emerged freshly dressed fifteen minutes later.
Mr Noonan dismisses the incident as an isolated event later campaiging in a local chip shop he jokes,
I normally have my dessert after my chips.
