Rehearsals are taking place for a production of 'Bugsy Malone' to be staged at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin over Christmas 1986.

Twink is putting the members of the Bugsy Malone cast through their paces.

Over 2,500 young hopefuls auditioned for roles in the gangster musical and only 86 were chosen. Una O'Hagan meets some of the young actors and speaks to them about auditioning and their busy schedules juggling rehearsals with school work. All the parts are played by children who are paid for their time. Rehearsals take place in a disused church on Dublin's Thomas Street every week night from 6 to 9 pm, and from 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday.

Bugsy Malone is a gangsters and molls tale set in New York's Lower East Side in 1929.  The cast includes a young Hilda Fay who went on to play Tracy Mc Guigan in RTÉ's 'Fair City'.
