Jerry O'Callaghan reports on the traffic and transport problems in Dublin.

This excerpt from the report shows the workings of Dublin Corporation's traffic control centre where the city's roads are monitored.

TD Mary Harney comments

Dublin is a very congested city. 80,000 cars a day travel into the city and the reason so many people travel by car is that we have an appalling public transport system.

Seamus Brennan also features in this report speaking about public transport problems, and traffic congestion in Dundrum.

This episode of 'Wednesday Report' examines the draft development plans from Dublin Corporation on plans to build new roads and examines possible alternative solutions to the traffic problems in the city. The report also looks to cities like Manchester and Birmingham to see how they are approaching similar challenges.

This episode of 'Wednesday Report' was broadcast on 1 May 1991.
