Thousands march in support of the hunger strikers.

A second major march in Belfast came at the end of a week of protests throughout Ireland. Seven republican prisoners had been on hunger strike in the Maze Prison for over a month, insisting on five demands to improve their conditions. On the day of the march, three women prisoners at the Armagh jail also went on hunger strike in solidarity.

This RTÉ News footage of the march shows a man dressed only in a blanket in freezing temperatures and taxis carrying cages, each occupied to represent prisoners on hunger striker.
