Schools in Waterford and Wexford close as a result of a teachers strike. However, at many boarding schools the students took control of the classrooms.

Under special agreement with the trade unions during a teacher's strike, students took control of the classrooms. In Newtown School in Waterford student prefects supervised study sessions in classes for boarders. This was a similar story in other boarding schools in the region.

All day schools throughout the counties of Waterford and Wexford were closed. The Association of Secondary School Teachers of Ireland (ASTI) says it will continue the series of regional strikes which would
culminate in a national strike of its members planned for 5 December.
