Éamon de Valera died on 29 August 1975 and lay in state in St Patrick's Hall, Dublin Castle for 2 days. On 1 September 1975 his remains were taken to the Pro-Cathedral ahead of his funeral mass and burial at Glasnevin Cemetery on 2 September.
