Over 8,000 women set off on a 10km around Dublin in what is believed to be the largest ever women's mini marathon.
Charlie Bird reports for RTÉ News from the Evening Press Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin on 9 June 1985.
Before the event gets under way participants show a display of solidarity as they join hands to sing 'Molly Malone'. The 8,000 runners then set off on a 10km run through the suburbs of south Dublin. First over the finishing line at Saint Stephen's Green was Regina Joyce in a time of 33 minutes and 31 seconds.
The event was sponsored by The Evening Press until the demise of The Irish Press Group in 1995.
