The story of an impoverished upbringing in post-war Limerick.

The premiere of the film 'Angela's Ashes' took place on 12 January 2000. Based on the best-selling book by Frank McCourt, the premiere took place simultaneously in Dublin and in McCourt's hometown of Limerick. The film recalls the author's impoverished upbringing in post-war Limerick after his family had returned from the United States.

The book on which the film is based was published in 1996.

Colm Connolly reports for RTÉ News and interviews the film's director Alan Parker, as well as actors Emily Watson who play's McCourt's mother, and Joe Breen who plays the young Frank McCourt. The part of Frank McCourt is played by three young actors including Joe Breen, Ciaran Owens and Michael Legge.
