Tonight, 25 July 2014, was to be the beginning of a five-day set of concerts by Garth Brooks at Croke Park in Dublin. However, it wasn't meant to be.

For the 400,000 Garth Brooks fans who would have been gearing up for the concerts over the weekend, we take a look back to 1997 when Garth played Croke Park in what was hailed as one of the biggest performances ever to be staged in Ireland.

This RTÉ News report from 16 May 1997 shows Garth on stage at Croke Park. Garth talks to the press about what Ireland and his fans mean to him.

During his stay in Ireland Garth also managed to play a surprise show on the back of a van in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
