Monaghan Win Ulster Title After 41 Year Wait

Monaghan won the Ulster Football Championship for the first time in 41 years when beating Donegal 1-15 to 0-11 on the the 22 July 1979. A bizarre start to the game saw Donegal get the first point after 10 seconds only for the referee to disallow the score because the band were still on the pitch. The match was restarted. A packed St Tiernach's Park in Clones witnessed a terrific display from Monaghan forward Kieran Finlay who scored 1-09.

The highlights shown here include the two starts to the game, Kieran Finlay's goal and the joy of the players and supporters as Monaghan win their first Anglo Celt Cup since 1938.

Monaghan and Donegal meet in the 2014 Ulster Football Final on Sunday in Clones at 4.00pm.
