1974 marked 100 years of polo at the Phoenix Park and the centenary of the All Ireland Polo Club.
A centenary match between Ireland and the USA was held at the polo grounds in the Phoenix Park The Americans won by eleven goals to one.
The playing pitch in the Phoenix Park, like all polo pitches, is 300 yards long and the goal posts at each end are eight yards apart. Polo is still played at the Phoenix Park, usually three times a week during the summer months and the All Ireland Polo Club is regarded as one of the oldest in the world.
