Queues in Rain for Cork Jazz Festival 1996

The Cork Jazz Festival kicks off today, making the city a magnet for jazz musicians and fans for the whole bank holiday weekend.
In 1996, RTÉ Radio 1's 'Access All Areas' devoted a programme to the festival. Presenter Pat O'Mahony went to Cork and spoke to festival organisers and visiting musicians.

Here, Pat talks to jazz manager Philip Mangan in the foyer of the Metropole Hotel, the hub of where everything happens. Philip says that jazz sessions in the hotel can go on until 6 or 7 in the morning. Outside, people are queuing for hours in the rain to get into venues.

This edition of 'Access All Areas was first broadcast on 2 November 1996.
