Following the kidnapping of Dutch industrialist Tiede Herrema by the IRA, a massive security campaign was launched to find him. 18 days later, he was located in a house in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare, where he was being held captive by Eddie Gallagher and Marion Coyle. Members of the army and Garda Special Branch descended on the location and laid siege to the house on 21 October 1975.

This RTÉ News report by Jim Fahy is from the seventh day of the siege. Fahy explains the efforts being made to free Herrema and the security operations put in place. Food is being delivered to the house. Special Branch members have been up on the roof and ambulances are on standby.
